Teeth 3 and 4!
So, tooth three popped through on Wednesday and now tooth four came in today (Thursday)! Andrew didn't seem to be bothered in the least by his new teeth. It does change the way he looks and it is a little startling to see two more pearly whites in there.
We've continued with the cereal and he seems to prefer oatmeal. He wasn't a huge fan in the beginning, but my friend, Angie, suggested mixing in a little banana and that did the trick. Last night, after eating all of his cereal, Andrew still seemed hungry, so I offered sweet potatoes. Our little chub ended up eating the entire container of sweet potatoes! I held out a sliver of hope that all that eating might encourage him to sleep through the night, but to no avail.
On that note, the sleeping is getting better. Andrew goes to bed between 6 and 7ish. Since we've cut out the evening nap, he can't stay up much longer than three hours after his last nap. He goes down pretty easily, minimal crying, then gets up once to eat. He usually wakes up at 3:30 and 4:30 to see if we'll cave and let him get up. He seems to be getting the hint that we're not going to get him as the crying is getting shorter each night. I think we got into a bad habit of letting him eat every time he woke up and obviously didn't need it since he wouldn't eat well once he woke up in the morning. Hopefully we're getting closer to eliminating all night waking except for maybe one feeding. It would be nice to get a good chunk of sleep in! One of these days...

"4" month stats
Andrew had his 4 month well baby check. He weighed in at 17 pounds 1 ounce, 66%; 26 inches long, 61%; and head circumference 17 inches, 53%. He passed the check-up with flying colors. Tonight Andrew had his first taste of baby cereal. He got to sit in his new highchair like a big boy! He wasn't thrilled with the taste, but he didn't spit it out or make faces like I thought he might.
Happy 5 month birthday Andrew!
Today our baby is five months old! It is so amazing how quickly time flies. He keeps learning and discovering things every day it seems. Last Friday, he discovered his toes and now does his darndest to try to get them to his mouth. However, his chubby belly keeps getting in the way.
After a month of poor sleep due to a myriad of reasons and probably with some fault of our own, we decided that we'd had enough over the weekend and started sleep training on Sunday night. We followed the method designed by the Sleep Lady in her book Good Night, Sleep Tight. A version of cry it out, but the parents stay in the room and eventually "shuffle" or move closer to the door every three nights. On Sunday night, our stubborn little boy took an hour and forty minutes to give in and finally go to sleep. Each night has progressively gotten better and he seems to be adjusting well. We also decided to get rid of swaddling and the vigorous bouncing that he so enjoyed. Last night, night 3, he fell asleep in about 10 minutes and only woke up to eat. After talking with his doctor today, I'm hoping to get him down to just one feeding at night in hopes that he'll eat better during the day. I only wished that we would have tried this a lot sooner!
He goes to his doctor for his four month appointment, he was late in his other appointments, so we have to keep the same schedule. Tonight he should get to use his new high chair and start with some cereal! We'll let you know his stats soon!
